So what is Thrush?
Yeast or thrush is actually a form of fungal infection, Its often called candidiasis after the most common form of yeast that infects humans, Candida albicans - but there are many forms of yeasts that are not Candida and produce much the same symptoms and are cured in the same way.Candida albicans actually is a natural tenant of our intestinal tract, and usually exists in harmony with other intestinal flora like acidophilus and lactobacillus (bacteria's) which all keep each other in check, these guys are all good, even Candida is good when its in balance. The thing is - it can become a major and very irritating problem very quickly as soon as balance is lost, why? Because it breeds so fast! And can potentially invade almost any moist place on the human body,
Oh and it affects men quite often too, quite painfully because men don't really know how to deal with it, and get extremely embarrassed, and are more likely to look for a home cure.
So what causes a yeast infection?
A yeast infection is caused by a few factors combining to make it possible for the yeast to infect or "overgrow" - Having a compromised or low immune system can give Candida a good chance to riot and take over the human body, factors that can lead to a lowered immunity can be having illnesses like chronic fatigue syndrome / ME /yuppie flu, fibromyalgia, Multiple sclerosis, or just plain being overworked, overstressed and having faced one too many demanding challenges that have left your body too exhausted to fight back.
- Taking a recent bout of antibiotics without taking an intestinal flora supplement. (probiotics) like acidophilus
- Early pregnancy, the hormonal changes seem to trigger yeast infections, sometimes it can be a sign of pregnancy.
- Taking certain oral contraceptives, seems to increase the likelihood of a yeast infection
- Douching increases the likelihood of a yeast infection.
- Any moist warm place is likely to harbor and nurture a yeast infection so genitals and sweaty places(between the bum cheeks, crotch/groin, between the webs of toes and fingers, below boobs.. so leaving these places sweaty for a long time and you have the ideal environment for yeast
- Wearing nylon panties or g strings, nylon pantyhose,
- Olive soap,
Enough already we know how thrush can be caused!, just tell us how to fix the damb problem...
Well not so fast I want to first educate the people who want to know about the symptoms of a yeast infection, so they know when they have it, for many readers it may be the first time they have had this awful horrid problem. That's the one thing that's universal its unpleasant to unbearable levels - wherever it strikes..
Some of the symptoms are: ps you don't need to have all the symptoms, just one and you have a good chance of having a yeast infection, as it's the most common cause of these problems
- Burning itching that drives you insane, if you are burning itchy or sore then theres a good chance you have a Yeast infection
- Feminine itching
- Jock itch in the case of men
- Possible sites of infection: mouth(oral thrush), vagina, penis , armpit, butt crack, under the boobs, between folds of skin, between fingers or toes or under nails.
- Raised red bumps on the skin either in the vagina, penis or on the body. (there may be no bumps)
- Vaginal discharge - white
- Foul smelling feminine odor
- White bumps in the mouth (in the case of oral thrush) with white coating on the tongue
Look let me tell you, if you have a yeast infection you will KNOW, its so damb uncomfortable and itchy that it drives you insane.
Ok so how do we get rid of a yeast infection? There are many options, you could go to your doctor and get a topical cream and an oral fungicide, but for my intents and purposes I would say you need to read about the side effect of these treatments, none of them permanently cure a chronic yeast infection, and that means that your Yeast infection will keep coming back every few months. There are better methods..see my review of the top yeast infection busters.
